Collection

Each piece is unique and is a stand alone item.  Often the wood dictates what each piece is going to become once it starts to be fashioned.  As the wood is turned the sample being turned often dictates what the ultimate piece will become.  Its spirit and charertristcs start to emerge as the creative process progresses until each individual unique piece is born on the lathe.  The piece can be born perfect with no blemishes but just like people it can also be born with blemishes and defects which only enhance its beauty, character and individuality.

Honey Pot
Honey Pot
The wood for this little honey pot was found in the local woods during a walk, Scottish beech. The little button top on the lid is a bit of mahogany from a boat originally built in 1939.

Spalted (Pear) cup
Spalted (Pear) cup
This beautiful cup was also born from a piece of wood from the firewood pile.  If you look closely the inherent imperfections abound within this piece but finishing it in epoxy will preserve its beauty for many many years to come and if so desired could actually be used.

The piggys collection
The piggys collection
I found the three blanks that became these three bowls in a antiques yard. They were sitting my the fire place ready to be put in the fire. I rescued them.
However they were not grateful and fought me all the way. They did not want to become smooth traditional round bowls. The first one came of the chuck and wacked me in the face several times. Once I started to shape them into the more angular shapes they are now they started to behave and let me work them.
Hence as they were wee piggys to work I am calling them the piggy collection.
Another rescue from the firewood pile. Nice piece of ash that looks very much better as a lovely little honey pot rather than simply ash.
